Jazz Road is a forthcoming initiative of South Arts that will support jazz artists throughout the United States through expanded opportunities to tour. This initiative, funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundationwith additional support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, is led by South Arts in partnership with the five other U.S. Regional Arts Organizations (Arts Midwest, Mid-America Arts Alliance, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, New England Foundation for the Arts, and Western Arts Alliance/WESTAF).

Between November 16 and December 14, 2018, South Arts hosted Jazz Road workshops in partnership with the six regional arts organizations (RAO’s).  These workshops were led by Jazz Road project director Sara Donnelly (Director, Jazz, South Arts) with facilitation support by Michael Bracy, Ashlye Keaton and Gene Meneray through a contract with the Ella Project. Workshops were held in Baltimore, MD, Atlanta, GA, Kansas City, MO, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL and Los Angeles, CA.

The Jazz Road workshops were a remarkable gathering of 135 invited artists and stakeholders representing 40 states, the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands– a true representation of the diversity and passion of jazz leadership across the country.
